K-2 Library

Welcome to the K-2 Library Media Center

The mission of McDavid-Jones Elementary School is to produce lifelong learners who demonstrate the desire for educational success. The mission of McDavid-Jones Elementary K-2 Media Center is to support the students, faculty, staff and parents, as they become effective users of the information that is available through the LMC. This can be accomplished with a child-centered staff who provides knowledgeable instruction and up-to-date technology and resources in an open caring environment.

As you may have noticed, McDavid-Jones is blessed with two libraries. It is an ideal situation for everyone because each library is able to provide materials to support the curriculum and specific needs of the students and teachers it serves. In the K-2 Library Media Center we are proud of the collection we have of almost 13,000 resources carefully selected to accommodate our young patrons. It is awesome to see how our Kindergarten through 2nd grade students take ownership in their library. Please come by to get acquainted when you visit the school. We will be happy to show you around.

Here you will find information about the Accelerated Reader Program, AR BookFinder, Home Connect and AVL, but please do not stop with this main page. Click on the links at the top of this page to get to other important, educational and fun information.

Accelerated Reader Program

Students at McDavid-Jones have access to every Accelerated Reader test made by Renaissance Learning. While students must test on all books at school, we strongly encourage students to read books from home or the public library as well. To see if the books your child is reading from home or the public library are AR, go to AR BookFinder with the link shown on the home page of this site or click on this link http://www.arbookfind.com/ If the books your child has read are indeed AR titles, simply make a list of those books and send it to school with your child. Your child can test on those titles as time allows in their classroom or in the library.

Both the K-2 and 3-5 libraries work together to provide an incentive program to the students to encourage them to reach their quarterly AR goals. AR goals are set individually for each student according to their independent reading level. This insures that all students are working on their level and have attainable goals and opportunity for success with the AR program.

The Accelerated Reader program gives you access to your child's AR information with the Home Connect option. With this feature, parents can keep up with their students' AR and STAR reading test scores by using the link for Home Connect also on the home page for this site or by going to this link https://www.renaissance.com/products/practice/home-connect/ and logging in with the student's username and password. All students will use their 10-digit State number as the username. Ask your child's teacher for this and their password.
