3-5 Library

McDavid-Jones Elementary is very unique.  We have two physical spaces to serve our large student population. The K-2 and 3-5 libraries are separated on two sides of the school and both provide book check out and class time for students.      
The mission of the McDavid-Jones Elementary School Media Centers are to support the students, faculty, staff, and parents, as they become effective users of the information that is available through the LMC. Both McDavid-Jones Library/Media Specialists strive to help students to become life-long learners, who can access information independently. This can be accomplished by providing knowledgeable instruction, up-to-date technology, and an open and caring environment.

General Information

The Library Media Center operates on a fixed schedule and is open each weekday from 8:00 to 2:00 for students and from 7:30 - 2:30 for teachers. The Media Center uses an automated catalog system named "Destiny" which can be accessed from all computers in the school including those located in the Media Center, Computer Lab, and individual classrooms. Students and teachers may use the Destiny program on any computer in the building to generate a list of desired materials and then email this list to the Media Specialist. These materials will then be pulled and prepared for the individual to pick-up.

Students may check out 2 books per visit for 3-5. Books are due back within one week. Fines are not charged for overdue books; however, students with overdue books will not be allowed to check out additional books. Students must pay to replace lost or damaged books.  

The library media specialist and classroom teacher will plan collaboratively to ensure that all class sessions support and extend the goals and objectives of the classroom.

Renaissance Place

Our District  has a subscription to Renaissance Place. This is the web-based site for Accelerated Reader. With Renaissance Place, students have access to any AR test that RP has created. While students must take their tests at school, they may read and test on books that they have in their own home library, the public library and the school library. To check and see if the books they are reading from home or that they are checking out at the public library are AR, go to http://www.arbookfind.com/ 

Home Connect

Parents can also keep up with their students' AR and STAR reading test scores by going to https://www.renaissance.com/products/practice/home-connect/ and logging in with the student's username and password.  Since MCPSS has purchased this resource, all students will use their 10-digit State number as the username. Most of our students will use their lunch number as their password. (A few of our teachers chose not to follow this system.)  This site will also email you when your child takes a test and let you know his/her score.
